Top Sports Highlights of the Year
2016 is in the books and as we begin 2017 we’re taking a look at some of the best moments in sports from the last year. From broken curses to Olympic dreams, 2016 was an amazing year for sports.
The CAVS Deliver for Cleveland
The 2016 NBA Finals provided the city of Cleveland it's long-awaited Championship when the Cleveland CAVS defeated the Golden State Warriors in a stunning game 7 victory led by a true GOAT Lebron James. Then Cleveland followed up by showing it is one of the greatest of all time cities by having more than 1 million fans show up for the CAVS victory parade.
Cubs Break the Curse
The Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series Championship. After being placed under the “Curse of the Goat” in 1945, the Cubs never even made it to compete in the championship, despite some close calls over the years. Before that, the team hadn’t won a World Series since 1908. This year’s Cubs team broke that curse and the 108-year draught with a win over the Cleveland Indians. The entire country watched an exciting seven-game series where the Cubs came back after trailing the Indians three games to one. The seventh game went into extra innings, with the Cubs winning 8-7 in the tenth inning.
Villanova’s March Madness Win
The “madness” in March Madness usually comes from major upsets early on in the college basketball tournament. But this year, the craziest moments came from Villanova’s last second victory over North Carolina. After North Carolina tied the game with six seconds left on the clock, the Villanova Wildcats buried a three-point shot as the buzzer was ringing to win the championship.
